Learn More About Treatment for Women

Women’s Drug Treatment Center in Georgia

Addiction is a disease that can affect anyone at any time. For those that have ever dealt with addiction, this is incredibly true. Despite this, women still don’t get the same recognition as men regarding addiction treatment. While traditional rehab can help a woman with substance abuse problems, sometimes a different approach is necessary to fully deal with the scope of their addiction. That’s where gender-specific addiction comes in. A women’s drug treatment center in Georgia offers unique benefits to the treatment process that standard therapy cannot provide, and this can drastically improve outcomes.

Just like men, women too face struggles with addiction, and some of these struggles are specific to only women. It can be hard to address and find solutions to these struggles in a mixed-gender environment, which is why women’s only addiction treatment options exist. The treatments are often the same, but the atmosphere and the benefits can be radically different, leading to much more successful outcomes. Atlanta Recovery is a women’s drug rehab center in Georgia, and our goal is to give all of our clients, regardless of gender identity, the highest chances of a successful, long-term recovery.

"ARP saved my life. Simple as that. When I gave up on myself, ARP was there every second of the way to push me to be the best and drag me out of the deep hole I was in. There are so many great things I could say, so it’s gonna be hard to condense everything. The staff is wonderful."

"I got to ARP in October of 2021 And they were all very welcoming and real. That was the first thing that made it easy to adapt into this new environment. The apartments were extremely nice and the girl community there was solid. During my stay at ARP I was able to work on me mentally, physically, and eventually spiritually. The counselors there are all great."

What Does Women's Drug Rehab Entail?

When we look at the data according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, women are less likely to use drugs and alcohol than men in all categories. This also includes emergency room visits. Women, however, are just as likely to become addicted to a substance as men once they become addicted. What this means is that women abuse drugs less than men, but the ones that do are just as likely to become addicted as a man.

This is certainly important regarding the overall number of addicted people. The vast majority are ale. That can make it difficult for a woman who enters a treatment facility to get clean. You see, women face unique challenges when they become addicted and because of that, they sometimes need specific treatment or help. That’s when a women’s only rehab center is the best choice.

When a woman enters a women’s only rehab, they are met with only other women in similar circumstances. The programs are tailored to the needs of women, and there are constantly other women, even those who have completed their treatment there to help any woman who is struggling with their addiction.

Women who enter our women’s rehab program at Atlanta Recovery Place have a higher chance of long-term recovery.

How Does Gender-Specific Rehab Help With Addiction Treatment?

Gender-specific rehab has a number of benefits for the people that it serves. Both men and women can focus on their recovery better in a gender-specific setting, and it provides a safer environment for those that may have dealt with trauma or relationship issues in the past.

Having a group of peers as part of your rehab also increases the amount of support that a person has and improves the likelihood of a successful outcome because the group is able to share experiences and advance with one another, and learn from each other. This can help even someone who has struggled with relapse in the past to be able to overcome their triggers and stay sober. Having a group of women or men who have been through many of the same struggles as you is a great comfort and can shed some light on what you need to do to continue your recovery.

What Are Some Issues That Women Face in Rehab?

There are some issues that both men and women face, and then there are those issues that are unique to one or the other. In the case of women, women are more likely to face hardships with finances after an addiction. This is because they typically lack the means to pull themselves back up after addiction has dragged them down. This is compounded by the fact that many women are left to care for children even if they struggle with addiction.

Besides societal pressures and those types of issues that women may face women may face issues with hormones, menstruation, and fertility as a result of drug use, and this can be a problem when going through treatment as it can manifest as health problems. Depending on the severity of any health-related complications, it can impact the success rate of addiction treatment and the potential for long-term recovery.

Mental health is another concern among women in recovery as women are much more likely than men to develop issues relating to anxiety and depression. When these problems are combined with addiction, it creates what is known as a co-occurring disorder. In cases where a person has both an addiction and a mental health problem, they require special dual diagnosis treatment that treats both problems at the same time while working to find underlying triggers and causes of each.
